  Disinfection (ACOP L8 / BS6700 / Water Co. Spec.)

Cleaning and Disinfection (ACOP L8)

Internal cleaning and disinfection of domestic water storge vessels is a commonly undertaken practice as a response to unsatisfactory conditions or as part of a planned maintenance regime.

The usual specification is detailed within the Approved Code of Practice L8 although in some circumstances alternative specifications will be more appropriate.

We undertake many disinfections under BS6700:2006 specification. This is required for new systems in certain circumstances and is not specifically required for legionella control. It is required as a general biocide treatment to ensure new systems are in a hygienic condition before operation.

We standardly clean all new vessels as although it could easily be expected that they would be in a clean condition the reality is that they normally have internal contamination from building debris, manufacturers labels and other general debris brought in during installation.

The main variance between the ACOP L8 and BS6700 Specification is the requirement in the latter for bacteriological sampling and analysis following completion.

UNDERGROUND MAINS

When a new water supply is required to a site the local water company will require this to be flushed and disinfected in accordance with their own specification.

These vary from region to region and are also often more stringent than standard BS6700:2006 specification.

We are familiar with the completion of these requirements and can undertake these programmes with satisfactory results on both large and small underground pipe systems.

WATER SOFTENER

Water softener resin beds can provide an environment that is conducive with the multiplcation of bacteria.

It is recommended as part of planned hygienic maintenance and within the Approved Code of Practice L8 that these are disinfected at least on an annual basis.

This aspect is often missed within water softener servicing regimes as it is not associated directly with mechanical and electrical aspects. Jordan Environmental Ltd provide this service utilising experienced personnel and approved disinfectants.
